Helping customers spend less time waiting while giving barbers smarter tools to manage appointments, queues, and daily operations.

BQUEUE is a digital queue management platform designed to modernize the traditional barbershop experience. The platform enables customers to discover nearby barbers, join live queues remotely, book appointments, and receive real-time updates, while providing barbers and administrators with the tools needed to manage operations more efficiently.

Overview

Waiting for a haircut is one of the few everyday experiences where customers still have little visibility or control. Most barbershops rely on manual queues, making wait times unpredictable, creating crowded waiting areas, and forcing barbers to manage appointments and walk-ins manually.

BQUEUE was designed to modernize this experience by combining digital queue management, appointment scheduling, and real-time customer updates into one connected platform that serves customers, barbers, and administrators.

Rather than simply digitizing bookings, the product focuses on reducing uncertainty, improving operational efficiency, and creating a smoother experience for everyone involved.

Problem

Through research and competitive analysis, one challenge became clear:

The biggest frustration wasn't waiting—it was not knowing how long the wait would be.

Customers often arrived at barbershops with no visibility into queue length or expected waiting time. Meanwhile, barbers relied on manual processes to organize customers, resulting in inconsistent workflows, scheduling conflicts, and missed opportunities to serve more people efficiently.

Customer Pain Points

  • Unpredictable waiting times

  • No visibility into queue progress

  • Crowded waiting areas

  • Difficulty finding trusted nearby barbers

  • Missed appointments and poor communication

Barber Pain Points

  • Manual queue management

  • Appointment conflicts

  • Poor customer organization

  • Lost walk-in opportunities

  • Limited visibility into daily operations

Project Goal

Design a connected product ecosystem that allows customers to discover nearby barbers, join live queues remotely, schedule appointments, receive timely updates, and leave reviews after each visit, while enabling barbers and administrators to manage operations through dedicated digital tools.

The primary objective was to reduce uncertainty for customers while improving operational efficiency for businesses.

Users

Primary User (Customers)

People who want convenient, predictable, and time-efficient barber experiences without unnecessary waiting.

Secondary User (Barbers & Shop Owners)

Professionals looking to manage appointments, queues, and customer interactions more efficiently while improving overall service delivery.

Platform Administrators

Responsible for monitoring platform activity, supporting barber onboarding, tracking operational performance, and maintaining platform health.

Research & Discovery

To better understand existing booking and queue experiences, I reviewed competing platforms, analyzed customer reviews, and studied how traditional barbershops currently manage appointments and walk-ins.

The research revealed that customers valued certainty more than booking itself. They wanted to know when they would be attended to, how many people were ahead of them, and whether joining a queue remotely could save them time.

Barbers, on the other hand, prioritized operational simplicity. They needed a system that reduced manual coordination without disrupting their existing workflows.

Product Strategy

Instead of forcing customers to choose between appointments and walk-ins, BQUEUE supports both.

Customers can reserve a specific time or join a live queue remotely, giving them greater flexibility while allowing barbers to manage demand more effectively.

The product was designed around three core principles:

  • Reduce uncertainty.

  • Simplify barber operations.

  • Improve the overall customer experience.

Information Architecture & User Flows:

I structured the customer journey to minimize decision fatigue by keeping the primary actions discovering a barber, booking an appointment, or joining a queue accessible within a few steps. This reduced friction while maintaining flexibility for different customer preferences.

Design System:

Discover

Researched customer frustrations, barber workflows, and existing solutions.

Define

Identified queue transparency as the primary product opportunity.

Ideate

Explored multiple approaches for queue tracking, appointment scheduling, and operational workflows.

Design

Built a scalable cross-platform experience supported by a unified design system.

Validate

Iterated on interaction patterns to improve clarity, reduce friction, and simplify navigation.

Customer Experience

A streamlined mobile experience that helps customers discover barbers, join queues remotely, and stay informed throughout their visit.

Admin Dashboard

Providing administrators with the visibility and control needed to manage platform operations at scale.

As BQUEUE grows, administrators need a centralized workspace to monitor platform activity, oversee barber accounts, and track key performance metrics. The admin dashboard was designed to simplify operational oversight, helping maintain a reliable experience for both customers and barbers.

Marketing Website

The marketing website serves as the primary acquisition channel for both customers and barbers.

It communicates the platform's value proposition, explains how the product works, encourages app downloads, and supports barber onboarding through clear calls to action.

Challenges:

One of the biggest challenges was designing a queue management system that remained intuitive while supporting both scheduled appointments and walk-in customers.

Another challenge involved maintaining a consistent user experience across customer, barber, admin, and marketing platforms without sacrificing the unique needs of each audience.

Key Learnings

Challenges:

BQUEUE reinforced that successful product design extends far beyond creating polished interfaces.

Designing for multiple user groups required balancing customer needs, business operations, and platform scalability within a single connected ecosystem. The project also strengthened my ability to think in systems, prioritize product decisions, and create experiences that remain consistent across multiple touchpoints.
